For Fence Posts Montana Is The Place To Go

By David Jones

Fences are very important structures to home and property owners because they serve several different functions. People erect fences around their property because they provide security and warn the public about trespassing. As such, fences are important security mechanisms that all homeowners dream of having. Besides providing security, fences also serve to confine farm animals to the farm. Cattle and horse owners usually use fences to control the movement of animals. When in search of fence posts Montana is the location to check out.

Literally, any material can be used in erecting fences. Metal, wood and plastic among other materials can be used in making fences. The type of intended fence will usually determine the kind of material that one will use. The choice of material is also determined by the purpose the fence is supposed to serve. For example, using barbed wire to make horse fence is such a wrong idea.

Pickets are a crucial part of fencing. Posts stand at aright angle from the ground and have some length driven into the soil. They are driven into the ground so that they can provide strength to the structure. Rails, meshes, and other components of the fencing are then attached to the posts. Given the important function of posts, one should choose them carefully. Posts should be beautiful and equally strong.

At the moment, steel pickets have a lot of uses. Different countries have their own ways of designing them. The most common designs include the Y-posts and the T-posts. T-posts usually have a T view when one looks at them from one end. Y-post is also shaped like a Y when looked at from one end. Another name for posts is pickets.

When choosing pickets for this job, it is crucial that one selects those of appropriate height. Here, the issue of height comes into play depending on what purpose the structure is to serve. Prior to making a purchase one must know the exact length of the required pickets. The height is supposed to be determined bearing in mind that a certain length gets buried underground. This buried length must be compensated for in the overall height.

There are some countries where the use of steep fence pickets is more common than in others. For instance, in the United States, New Zealand, and Australia, Y-posts and T-posts are more common. On the other hand, in countries where wood is inexpensive, wooden pickets seem to dominate, especially in agricultural applications. Wooden pickets are usually undertaken through a series of wood preservation methods to ensure durability.

A mixture of cement, ballast and sand is used placed together with the post into the ground to ensure longevity and strength of the structure. When the concrete cures completely it holds the picket firmly into the ground making it strong and stable. This ensures it is not weakened by force from animals, and pressure of rain, soil erosion, time and wind.

Lastly, how much pickets cost usually depends on various factors. Some of these factors include material, location, and quality. For instance, metallic pickets cost more than their wooden counterparts. Similarly, construction materials are cheaper in some countries and regions than in others, and that plays a role too. Also, quality of the material determines cost.
