Tree Maintenance In San Jose

By Andrew Cox

Over time, having trees around the home has become more and more rare due to population increase and the need to use land for construction of living places. This aside, it still is important to have trees cared for so that they remain healthy and with vigor. There are various benefits of planting trees in the home and thus the importance of maintenance. When considering tree maintenance in San Jose there are a number of aspects involved.

Watering is one of the most important aspects of maintenance. It should be done regularly. Trees need most water when they are young, that is, at the seedling stage. What most individuals do not understand is that trees should be watered even after they are fully grown. The frequency is however reduced. During spring and into autumn, there should be enough watering because they have greater water requirements.

Mulching is necessary during the early stages because it is the practice that prevents trees from losing moisture that is useful for their growth. On an ideal basis, the mulch needs to be laid some 2 to 4 inches deep to ensure the entire root system is covered. Trunks should never be covered fully. Some 2 inches should be left so that they do not decay. When mulch is too thick, it will prevent gas exchange.

Fertilization is an important aspect when it comes to maintaining trees. This is mostly the case for newly planted trees because conditions of the coil might not be favorable for them. There are plants that will require more or less nutrients depending on the condition of the soil. This means the nutrients have to be provided artificially. There is the choice of green options such as compost or store-bought options. While compost is great, it takes some time to create.

Prior to using some specific fertilizers on trees, you need to check the levels of pH in the soil. The organic content also need to be checked. Soil testing kits will help in getting the right readings. Even in the case of mature trees, it is still important that soil gets periodically tested to ensure the plants are healthy. Arborists are the right professionals to perform soil tests.

Root collars are the sections where roots meet stems or trunks. They tend to be encircled by roots in case you do not use proper planting techniques. Strangling is commonly experienced but it can be avoided if you use the right methods. There should also be regular checks and soil loosening at the tree base.

Just as watering and fertilization, it is important to have trees pruned. This should start when they are still young. The removal of diseased and dead trees helps to keep the others healthy. Furthermore, it will enhance safety because there will be few incidences if any of fallen tree branches.

Tree maintenance can be very well done by professionals. They know the various needs of trees and how to deal with them. It is what ensures the work is done to the best quality.
