By Stephanie Green

Most places have slopes and hills and these dimensions can really be helpful to add an extra privacy and to separate your home from the busy streets. However, know that the hills can also be susceptible to runoff and erosion and its devastation can be hard to control. Luckily, there are ways to avoid it and these will be discussed in this article.

First thing is to find out the causes as to why it happens. The problem occurs when the dirt is swept away by forces man made and natural. There are natural elements just like ice, water and wind that cause it to be deteriorated. Other contributing factors such as climate change may also cause the devastation. Some solve it by using erosion control products Minnesota but there are natural methods for sure.

One way for it prevention is making baffles or barriers. This might be a good solution if you are looking with a small slope. These can help in slowing down the water flow or divert it from flowing downhill that creates the process.

Ripraps can also be applied. The goal again is diverting its flow to another direction. These use rough and loose stones mostly granite to form into slopes. The stones then are spread loosely or embed to create the form. Depending on its design, one will surely have a good feeling about its form.

Another is the creation of a terrace which is the act of building stair steps on slopes. The layers allow you to put plants between every step. The idea is not to allow run offs and erosion. Retaining walls can be useful and it could be made of any material such as a concrete or stone and others.

Plants of course are a great natural option in controlling the devastation on slopes by using plants. This is so by the help of the roots of the plants that act as naturally to round or anchor the soil thus avoiding run off. This is however difficult when you have a slope.

Another effective way is planting turf grass. While some claim that this is the best defense against corrosion, it is indeed helpful in a way as it binds the ground together with its extensive root system. Its roots are stronger because ninety percent of its weight is in the roots according to studies.

No matter what you choose to build or make to avoid the erosion, make sure it is done properly. Do not ignore the first signs of damage and deal with them immediately to avoid destroying a great landscape. The procedures need to be handled effectively for a highly effective outcome.

Treat the problem as soon as its effects are noticeable. This can avoid salvaging the piece of land that you have particularly your landscape.
