Tips On How To Carry Out MNDOT Mixes

By Helen Cole

Today, the world population is highly dependent on farming as a means of acquiring food. As vegetation is the main source of food, they need to properly taken care of from their seeds stage till they are fully grown. MNDOT mixes is among the many ways in which seeds are taken care of and transported to different areas of the world. Here are some tips on keeping them healthy.

Moisture content is the first factor that determines the quality of the seeds. An increase in the moisture content of a seed beyond the required levels tends to make the seed grow. The seed will then grow while in the storage and if it does not get the necessary conditions needed for it to grow and mature, it will rot and thus the quality of the seed is completely damaged.

Relating to moisture content, humidity also plays a role in altering the moisture content of a sees. High humidity level adds moisture into the seeds and triggers it to grow thus deteriorating the seed quality. Its is thus important to ensure that the seeds are stored in a cool dry area with controlled humidity to keep the seed quality.

Another main issue when dealing with seeds is pests. Pests are common destroyers to the quality of plant products or the whole tree. They are of a variety of types and species. When storing seeds either for planting in the next season or to transport it and grow in another area, it is important to ensure that they do not have pests. Any pests in just one seed may reproduce and attack all seeds.

one main way of preventing pests from reducing the quality of your seeds is through using pesticides on the seeds. This will involve spraying the seeds with pesticides which will kill the pests and their eggs to prevent them from hatching and reproducing. Laying out the seeds to dry in the sun has also been identified as a way of killing pests that tend to affect the seeds.

The temperature of the storage area in which the seeds are placed also determines their quality. Very high temperatures may actually cook the seeds that is they may kill the seed as the heat denatures the proteins that allows it to grow. It is also important to note that very low temperatures may also freeze the seeds frosting them and reducing the quality.

Although one may try to maintain all the above conditions there is still the probability that the seed may still reduce in quality. This often tends to happen when the seed is diseased. With this reason in mind, it is advisable to first closely examine the condition of the seeds with a microscope and identify if it has any diseases before storing it with the other seeds.

Seeds can be seen as the source of life today as all the products we eat have an origin in plants thus they are a valuable commodity in life. The proper maintenance of seed quality is essential for ensuring that the quality of the seeds is maintained to ensure a continued supply of food for the whole world population.
