What You Need To Consider Before Installing One Of The Garden Water Fountains NC Homeowners Enjoy

By Linda Peterson

Whether you've got formal gardens or something more casual, but equally impressive, you know how relaxing it can be to spend time alone tending to them or just sitting quietly. If you are thinking about making your little oasis even more enjoyable, by adding one of the garden water fountains NC homeowners love, you might be surprised at how easy and affordable it can be.

If you're handy and want to tackle this project yourself, you will find that there are kits you can buy that have everything you need to complete a fountain. The downside to this is that you're constrained by someone else's design choices. If your choice is to create your own design, hardware and home improvement stores are a great source of materials and free advice.

Before you start your installation, you have to consider where you are going to build the fountain. You are going to need a power source, so you have to put the fountain in an area where power is accessible. There are structures that operate using solar panels and require sunlight to work. You have to remember that your fountain will need routine maintenance. Anything you build should be accessible enough to handle that.

A fountain is not much more than a base with a series of basins connected to it. It has a tube or pipe that feeds from the base to the basins. It's operated by at least one submerged, motor driven pump. You can choose a pump that comes in a filter box. This reduces the possibility that your pump will get clogged with debris. Your fountain should be filled before you test the pumps.

In ground fountains have to be placed carefully. Once you have dug the hole, placed the liner in it, and installed the base, you have made a commitment to that particular spot. You do not want to place a solar paneled fountain under trees. You should test the soil to make sure it can accommodate the fountain.

You should not need a plumber to create a piped source for the fountain. After you fill it, the waters will just circulate. Adding to the supply, when evaporation reduces the flow, is occasionally necessary. Tap water is permissible to fill the fountain, but yours may have minerals in it that will eventually accumulate. This will affect the strength of the flow. Distilled water is a better choice.

Where there is electricity and water, there is the possibility of a serious accident. You should take all safety precautions. That includes never touching an electrical element when your hands are wet. If you have small children, you will have to create some kind of barrier to the fountain. Kids can drown in a couple inches of liquid.

A fountain can be a great addition to your garden. There are professionals you could hire to handle the job. You might decide to go with one of the kits available. If you are really feeling adventurous and handy, you could create your own design and built a one of a kind fountain all on your own.
